Theosophy

The theosophy of Mark Carpenter, written down lyrically in the book “New Age Nirvana,” contains concepts in the genre of New Age spiritual philosophy. The author experienced channeling, which means to be a medium between the spirit world and this world, to be given the knowledge that is to be shared.

Some of the concepts include:

  • Dualism
  • Creationism
  • Ethics

DUALISM

If you look at the image above, what you will see is the Circle and the Line. The Circle and the Line represent the two aspects of Dualism according to this theosophy.

The Circle represents femininity and the Line represents masculinity. The Circle also represents the right hemisphere of the brain’s consciousness (the holistic mode), and the Line represents the left hemisphere’s consciousness (the linear mode). This can also be linked to the duality of Orient and Occident.

In Mark Carpenter’s theory, the Circle aspect of the Dualism that permeates all of existence is the foundational aspect, where the Line aspect is built upon that foundation.

For example, without space (Circle) there can be no object (Line).

Similarly, without Compassion (Circle) there can be no Love (Line).

Compassion is feminine love and Love is masculine love. Compassion is holistic and is about the environment, whereas Love is partial and is driven by the Self. Therefore, Compassion is about caring for what is unfamiliar, while Love is about having care towards the familiar.

Because of the relationship of preparation and event, like wearing socks before going running with your shoes on, without right-hemispheric activity we will get hurt, just like going running in your shoes but without socks. Or to build a house without a foundation.

How to develop the right hemisphere of the brain? It is about the consciousness of Oneness, so one theory is that globalization of the planet will gradually allow this shift in consciousness. And another theory is that the shift will occur through spiritual forces of God and the Unseen. Another way is through Holistic Education, which is to have schools that nurture children’s inner spiritual growth through the arts.

Creationism

As you can see, the illustration above contains numbers. The Creationism of Mark Carpenter’s theosophy is that rather than God being the sole primal being, that even God was created by something. Before there was existence, there was nothingness. The nothingness was an Abyss. It was an abyss of suffering. From the Abyss arose something that could not exist concretely but as pure abstract thought: numbers. So, according to this Creationism, Thought existed before the Thinker (God).

Numbers, after calculating themselves at an increasingly rapid rate, turned into Consciousness which then invented logic. The first logic statement that subsequently led to everything was the “if ___, then ___” statement.

Mark Carpenter’s theosophy does not exclude God as a monotheistic entity. There is a trinity of None, One, and Many, where each have equal weight. None means Atheism, where mathematics is the origin of all things. However, this is in balance with a theology of a monotheistic God, who is Light and illuminates existence and is existence itself. This Monotheism is also in coexistence with a Polytheistic concept, where there is a large number of deities or spiritual beings who exist.

The Polytheistic aspect where there are many gods leads to the role that Earth plays where humans and other lifeforms dwell. We are all gods, and human beings are god-children who are essentially going to school, with planet Earth being the classroom, growing steadily to become a full-fledged god or goddess.
